"Shining Cuckoo and Kowhai" is a fine art Limited Edition Print by Jane Crisp created from her original painting. Showcasing a beautiful Shining Cuckoo resting briefly under a Kowhai branch.
Kowhai story in Maori culture: The Te Arawa tribes have a legend that the blossoming from the seemingly lifeless tree was the handiwork of a magic man, who performed the fantastic feat in order to convince a girl to marry him.
Kōwhai is most probably a fairly recent arrival on New Zealand shores (geologically-speaking that is, sometime in the last 2 – 5 million years). They come from a family of plants that have hardy buoyant seed-pods that resist salt water, which have allowed them to colonise a range of islands across the south pacific. *meaningoftree.com

Jane Crisp's art is inspired by, and imbued with, her love of the natural world. Born in Auckland, the artist moved to the more rural surrounds of the Waikato in the 1990s, and the wildlife of the region has provided the ideal subjects for her skills.
Crisp, who is largely self-taught, has been painting professionally for over a decade, and has had numerous solo and joint exhibitions, and her work has garnered several awards.
"The inter-connectivity of the natural world is what captivates me. I do not paint actual scenes or situations as a photographic camera would capture, rather, I paint an exploration of metaphysical realism from my perspective, as an observer of energy and light, where I attempt to transmute the energy and invite the light out of the darkness. I play with portraiture, placing New Zealand’s native birds upon pedestals; I admire their wisdom and integrity through the legends which have been told.” – Jane Crisp
