'L'Homme' by Santie Cronje.
Huia was an extraordinary bird of the New Zealand bush before becoming extinct just over a 100 years ago.
Huia were the ultimate avian "stars" of the New Zealand bush: beloved by Maori, extraordinarily charismatic, beautiful, confiding and fearless.
In this piece I am depicting Huia in flight, free from the reality of their extinction. His spirit is boundless and pure. The egg with the red string symbolizes a positive alternate future that I wish for.
Red string through history
Throughout history and across philosophies, the red string has been worn for protection, faith, good luck, strength, and connection. While there are different views about the properties of red thread, it is viewed as a powerful tool across cultures.
Today many people use it as a reminder that they're not alone. A symbol of being loved, supported and feeling safe and secure. For others, it's a prompt to stay positive while facing any adversity.
