Mel Waite is a photographic-focused artist and award winning professional photographer based in Porirua Wellington, with a sincere love of nature and the simple joys in life, family and friendship.
With an eye for detail, she creates intricate works of art from the small fallen, washed up and overlooked treasures left by Mother Nature. These treasures are photographed on-site, left where they were found and digitally re-assembled in Mel's Studio. Upon closer inspection the viewer is often surprised at the objects they find within these natural kaleidoscopic wonders. Mel's ultimate mission is to bring a little joy into the world that can be shared with likeminded folks.
Photography has always been a big part of Mel's world with much of her photography career focused on capturing people - from family photos and weddings to branding and corporate shots.
2020 and Covid lockdowns meant that photographing people wasn’t an option and the time in isolation took Mel's well-developed photography skills in a new direction. She started experimenting with object-based art and fell in love with the process. This experiment quickly grew into something much bigger and today her art career sits nicely alongside her photography one, and on any given day, you’ll find her photographing people, objects, botanicals and knick-knacks, creating both timeless portraits and intricate artworks.
