Artist Bio
Tracy Stamatakos is an editorial, commercial and fine art photographer from Tauranga and highly regarded for her simple, stylish imagery. Her work speaks of memories and meaningful moments, of simple grounding landscapes.
“I want my work to have long exposure, to have a long-term role. We live in a world where images have five minutes of fame on a newsfeed, generating a series of lost moments. I believe photography as art achieves its highest destiny in physical form which people can encounter over and over again.”
I can trace back my love of photography to an early age when we lived on a lifestyle block in the Waikato. Our neighbour, a fascinating old lady, who did pottery and spun wool, once gave me a stack of national geographic magazines. I was hooked! Plastered the inside of an old shed with photos and decided I would become a marine biologist to save the whales. I never achieved either, but instead decided on a career where I would create images that would speak to others”.
