Artist Bio

Rotorua based artist, Claire Delaney Mcleary is a visual storyteller who paints whimsical illustrations in watercolour, pen and ink and oil. Her recognisable style is loose and gestural filled with rich narrative that she weaves througout her imagery. Her art is often described as magical, mischievous, emotive and personal.

Originally from the UK she received a BA hon in Textile and fashion attributing this to why her characters are often so uniquely dressed. Claire has written and illustrated several of her own books and illustrates regularly for commission work. With a passion for the creative process, she has taught art in the community for thirty years.

Claire has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions over the years and was shortlisted in the Margaret Mahey book illustration prize in 2022.
